period as evidence to support the annotation of gene functions and 3272 scientific articles were removed as a result of the review process mentioned in our last report (7). Articles were removed for two main reasons: (i) they were removed because the standard of evidence in the field has changed such that the evidence is not sufficient to support the annotation, or (ii) the annotations were found to be erroneous and (iii) because more recent experiments show the original interpretation was not correct. Table 1 shows the changes in GO annotations over the last two years for 11 well-studied organisms.
