Finally, there were two subclusters of both D1 and D2-type neurons, representing matrix and striosome compartments,40 based on expression of genes specific to either the matrix or striosome regions of the striatum41 (Extended Data Fig. 2-3). 80% of D1 neurons and 83% of D2 neurons were within the matrix compartment, which makes up approximately 85% of the striatum.40 There was no significant difference in subcluster proportion by AUD status in either astrocytes or D1 and D2-type neurons.
