(95). This approach controls for the potential effects of SG factors on systemic AER, which might otherwise confound comparisons of alcohol bioavailability between groups (95). Compared to the control group, the bioavailability of ingested alcohol increased by 34% in women post-SG. The increased bioavailability among women post-SG was not explained by differences in systemic AER (94). Taken together, these data further support the hypothesis that the primary site for alcohol FPM takes place in the stomach among women. Whether this is also the case for men who have undergone SG surgery is an active research area.
