Figure 6 illustrates the configuration of the phenotypes in the space defined by the first two principal components of SNP profiles from age-specific sparse PCA. Only the relation between the 4 groups in each plot can be compared between plots; as noted in the caption, the axes differ for each plot. Between sex differences for each modality are larger than between modality differences for each sex. How the spatial configurations of the phenotypes in the genotypic axes reflects the actual scalp topographies was not investigated.
