Males and females are analyzed separately in order to properly estimate sex differences in developmental trajectories, since previous work (Cousminer et al., 2013; Chorlian et al., 2015, 2017; Meyers et al., 2019, 2021; Chorlian et al., 2023) suggests that there may be important differences between male and female developmental patterns, both in terms of specific measures and genetic associations with those measures.
