and protein expressions were increased by LA and ALA treatment in HepG2 cells transfected with functional plasmids or NC plasmids. HepG2 cells were examined for mRNA and protein expression levels in the presence or absence of LA and ALA treatment, the expressions of mRNA (Figure 5A) and protein (Figures 5B,C) levels of CYP2A6 were extremely reduced in Nrf2 silenced cells compared to the NC groups. Conversely, Nrf2 over-expressed HepG2 cells expressed much higher CYP2A6 mRNA (Figure 5D) and protein (Figures 5E,F) levels than the cells transfected with NC plasmid. In the presence or absence of LA and ALA treatment, GSTA1 mRNA relative expression was reduced in Nrf2 silenced cells (Figure 5G) and was increased in Nrf2 over expressed cells (Figure 5H) compared to the NC groups.
