This suggests an underlying genetic component causing the observations of decreased educational performance being related to cannabis use in numerous epidemiological studiese.g.45. The direction of causation is unclear and it is unknown if the relationship is caused by cannabis use and subsequent disengagement from education or wether and to what extent the two share overlapping genetic factors46.
