In addition to alcohol dependence, effect sizes of case-control comparisons from six previous studies by other ENIGMA disease-related working groups, comprising a total of 13,652 cases and 19,878 controls, were drawn from published results. These included case-control differences in CT for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) [1], schizophrenia (SCZ)[6], major depressive disorder (MDD)[5], bipolar disorder (BD) [2], epilepsy (EPI) [7], and clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR) [3]. This cross-disorder investigation was enabled by the worldwide collaborative neuroimaging efforts and standardized preprocessing adopted within the ENIGMA consortium [31]. Summary information for these studies is provided in Table S10. Several developmental disorders (e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder) were not included because the observed cortical abnormalities could be age-dependent [32] and those case-control effects were calculated using the average regional CT between left and right hemispheres [32–34].
