Chimeric mice (age range 4-10 months) were used for imaging intracellular Ca2+ in xenografted human glia. In addition, as positive controls, surgical resections of human cortex (n=3 patients; 30.6 ± 8.8 years-old) were obtained with patient consent and the approval of the University of Rochester Research Subjects Review Board; all samples were prepared for physiological assessment and analyzed as described in Supplementary Methods.
