MRI measurements were completed on a representative set of four female mice using a 3.0T clinical imager (MR750, GE Healthcare, Waukesha, WI), equipped with a custom-built quadrature birdcage coil specifically sized for rodents [25–27]. Imaging was performed using an investigational version of a quantitative 3D multi-echo chemical-shift encoded fat-water separation technique that has been previously described and validated in mice [25–27]. Prior to imaging, mice were anesthetized with pentobarbital via intraperitonel (IP) injection (40mg/kg BW). Quantification of adipose volume was completed using OsiriX computer software through segmentation of the fat-only images.
