Text

In individual regression models, AS was significantly associated with smoking outcome (β = .30, p < .0001) and abstinence expectancies (β = .24, p = .0004) and proportion of quit attempts involving abstinence of less than one month (β = .18, p = .035) but not with cigarettes per day (β = −.01, p = .89). After controlling for anxious arousal and severity of nicotine dependence, AS was still significantly associated with smoking outcome (β = .24, p = .001) and abstinence expectancies (β = .20, p = .006) but not with proportion of quit attempts in which abstinence could not be maintained for at least one month (β = .15, p = .12).
