Text

Due to the recently established role of ALDH1A1 in alcohol-related phenotypes and the dual function of ALDH1A1 in both the alcohol and DA metabolism pathways, we screened eight polymorphisms across the 52.8-kilobase (kb) ALDH1A1 gene for association with alcohol consumption patterns and alcohol dependence in our Finnish population. Alcohol dependence and problem drinking were determined by alcoholism treatment status and the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT), a measure of alcohol consumption behaviour.
