To provide an initial understanding of the relation between the coherence trajectories and the information provided by determining the geodesic distances between covariance matrices, a plot of the z-score of the geodesic distance between the initial (age 12) covariance matrix of the entire set of 27 coherence pairs and each successive covariance matrix was superimposed on the plot of the z-scores of the coherence trajectories (shown in Figure 4) is shown in Figure 6. The identity of temporal structure between the coherence trajectories and the geodesic distance trajectory suggests a direct connection between processes affecting development and the observed coherence values.
