a low-risk sample, where the range of interparental conflict is somewhat restricted, we would observe a fan-shaped interaction effect, which is consistent with a diathesis–stress model of cGxE. In a high-risk sample, where there is potentially a greater range of interparental conflict, we would observe a crossover interaction effect, which is consistent with a biological sensitivity to context model of cGxE. Thus, the pattern of effect observed in cGxE studies is closely tied to the nature of the sample and the measurement of the environment.
