Whole body insulin sensitivity is the result of both peripheral and hepatic insulin action [35]. Peripheral action of insulin affects tissue glucose uptake, and therefore glucose clearance. In liver, insulin affects the net balance of gluconeogenic versus glycolytic flux by influencing gene expression levels.
