cGPDH is the only gluconeogenic gene which was identified to be a direct PPARα target gene. Although PPARα plays a role in fasting-induced stimulation of gluconeogenic gene expression, this may occur via supporting glucocorticoid action rather than direct stimulation of gene transcription.
