Additionally the correlating ASD-implicated transcriptomes with cell-type specific protein expression provided evidence on the significance of considering cell-type specific expression in studies of the transcriptional mechanisms of ASD. Thus, many highly expressed ASD genes are mainly detected in glia but not in neurons, as well as in specific layers of the cerebellum (Ziats & Rennert, 2011).
