These effects are consistent with previous research showing that the patch + ad lib NRT increases the time to relapse.25 Finally, while there was substantial evidence that the patch + lozenge combination was highly efficacious relative to the placebo condition, it is important to note that it did not differ significantly in 6-month outcome from the other active cessation treatments in head-to-head comparisons.
