Another option would be to consider cases where an initial linkage signal has been followed up with fine-mapping that resulted in the identification of associated genetic variants, which have been confidently confirmed in subsequent studies. Because of technical limitations to the existing data, the lack of widespread concurrence across species cannot be taken as evidence of lack of actual correspondence. However, the limited success of this search for correspondences suggests that this is not the most fruitful path towards suggesting better phenotypes to either the human or animal modeling communities.
