Unemployment rates were higher for SC subjects with a history of DD, but this was primarily due to differences in males. Only 29.5% of men with a DD were employed, compared to 43.8% of men with SC only. Employment rates for women were 53.8% and 51% respectively for DD cases and SC only cases. Regardless of DD history, males were more frequently unemployed than females. It is important to note, however, that the variable “employed” included any type of employment including ‘housewife,’ which may explain the higher employment rates for women in this sample.
