Indeed, some of this work has identified potential candidate genes associated with spontaneous or event-related oscillatory activity, such as genes coding for receptors for the neurotransmitters GABA (Porjesz et al., 2005), acetylcholine (Jones et al., 2004), and glutamate (Chen et al., 2009).
