Library preparation and high-throughput sequencing for 36 cycles was performed on Illumina Genome Analyzers I and II according to the manufacturer’s protocols (Illumina). The first 23–25 bp of each sequence tag were mapped to the mm8 assembly (NCBI build 36). Tag counts for each experiment were normalized to 107 specifically mapped tags.
