In contrast with the MDS plots, the GLA plots only provide two axes, although the plots of the distance from the trajectories does offer additional information. In the plots, the solid blue line represents the linear trend of the projection of the covariance matrices along the primary geodesic, and the dashed blue line how far away these matrices are from the primary geodesic. The solid green line represents the linear trend of the projection of covariance matrices along the secondary geodesic, and the dashed green line how far away these matrices are from that geodesic. The distances on the y-axis are those of the non-Euclidean space of the covariance matrices. In the comprehensive plot, The distance of the excursion from the linear progression is about half of the distance from the initial to the final state. Note that the age at maximum excursion from linearity is the same for males and females, and is the same as the peak in the trajectory along axis 2 in the MDS analysis.
