Litters were culled to eight animals, four animals of each sex when possible, on PD 2. Postnatal treatments occurred from PD 2 through 10. ET pups were intubated using Intramedic PE 10 tubing with 3.0 g/kg of ethanol in 27.8 ml/kg of enriched milk formula (West et al., 1984) at 11 AM followed two hours later with 27.8 ml/kg of milk alone. IC pups were intubated twice daily but no solutions were administered. NC pups were weighed daily. Rats were weaned on PD 21 and housed in same sex pairs from the same litter. No more than one male and one female from each litter were used for a particular dependent measure. Animal numbers are listed in the figure legends and Tables 1 and 2.
