Text

The childhood adversities included three broad classes that have been found to predict suicidal behaviors in previous studies:19–21 childhood losses (parental death, parental divorce, other major losses), indicators of childhood family dysfunction (parental criminal behavior, physical abuse, sexual abuse, family violence, economic adversity), and respondent serious physical illness. These childhood adversities were assessed with measures developed for the US National Comorbidity Survey.40
