Chunk #33 — PART 2: EXAMPLES OF THE QUESTIONS ADDRESSED WITH COGA DATA — Trajectories of use—Initiation, onset, offset, and predictors of patterns across time
offspring initiation of alcohol use, but also with other risky behaviors, including offspring early involvement with cigarettes and cannabis use, and age at first consensual sexual intercourse. 81 Parental divorce/separation exerted additional effects on the early initiation of alcohol and substance use, with the effect size comparable to that of having two AUD‐affected parents. 81 Using COGA's longitudinal electrophysiological data, we have also found that the age of onset of AUD in adolescents and young adults is associated with both genetic and neurophysiological factors, most strongly among those who used substances before the age of 16 82 (see 3. Brain function).
