The discovery of GWAS loci for these disorders is likely to continue for many years to come with, ultimately, many hundreds or thousands of independent genetic associations expected for each disorder18. This does not mean the whole genome will eventually be implicated - rather we expect thousands of physically overlapping and independently associated loci to cluster onto hundreds of gene regions. The available evidence suggests these hits will converge onto both specific genes and biological pathways.
