study, we ran exploratory post-hoc analyses on the effect of childhood maltreatment on alcohol persistence, controlling for demographics, other childhood adversities, and professional treatment for alcohol problems (i.e., use of medical, psychiatric, or social services for alcohol problems). The pattern of results did not change, with significant effects for all types of abuse and physical neglect (AORs: 1.53–3.12) but not emotional neglect (AOR=1.32). Treatment-seeking should be considered further in future research, especially in studies that assess nicotine treatment-seeking.
