The World Health Organization (2000) recommends that problem drinkers be identified based on a total AUDIT score ≥8 (Barbor et al., 1992). However, others have suggested a score of 12 as the most sensitive and specific cut-off for screening BD, as a score of eight indicates problem drinking even when one has no problem with alcohol currently (Kim, 1999; Lee et al., 2000). A score of 26 or higher indicates suspected alcohol dependence (Kim et al., 1999).
