Text

Psychiatrists should be aware of the difference between genetic variation and epigenetic changes, understand the relationship of such changes to gene expression, and be able to evaluate potential biomarker studies employing gene expression. An understanding of epigenetics can be a very helpful tool in counseling patients about the interaction of genetics and environment in the risk of developing a psychiatric disorder.
