Thus, the current findings draw a connection between previous work on alcohol expectancy effects on cognition (e.g., Fillmore & Blackburn, 2002; Marczinski & Fillmore, 2005; Williams et al., 1981) and brain imaging studies on interactions between motivation and cognitive control (see Chiew & Braver. 2011), suggesting a way in which the interface of these two literatures might shed light on how and why alcohol affects cognition and performance.
