To control the amount of detail in CCA modeling, we obtained family-wise error-corrected P values for all modes by permutation testing analogous to previous research (21, 22). Among all estimated components, 19 modes of covariation were highly statistically significant at Pcorrected < 0.001 (Fig. 3B), in line with previous CCA analyses on UK Biobank participants (21). Each isolated DMN−networks mode captured a distinct source of covariation that together were mutually uncorrelated. Collectively, this analysis shows that neural activity patterns within the DMN are related to distributed patterns of large-scale networks.
