Text

The baseline characteristics of participating adolescents are provided in Table 1, which includes means and standard deviations (SD) for all primary variables. The mean depression score of 60.7 on the CDRS-R is above the published clinical cut-point on this scale and is equivalent to a standardized t-score of 76 (99th percentile) (Poznanski and Mokros 1996). The mean suicidal ideation score of 45.4 on the SIQ-JR is also above the validated clinical cut-point of 31 (Reynolds 1988). In total, 268 of the 352 adolescents had made at least one previous suicide attempt prior to enrollment in the study (76.1%). Further, 39.5% of participants had histories of multiple suicide attempts. As measured at baseline, 82.2% had their biological mother present in their household and 45.1% had their biological fathers present.
