The main consensus of the publications dealing with epigenetics and iPSCs is that differentiation of iPSCs is primed to their original cell state meaning fibroblasts-derived iPSCs differentiate preferably into osteogenic direction whereas iPSCs from blood cells form more hematopoietic colonies (reviewed in [33]). However, several groups describe a loss of the epigenetic memory after prolonged iPS cell culture which leads to the conclusion that the primary cell source may not be absolutely essential for redifferentiation [34, 35].
