The one-sided hypergeometric test was used to identify modules that are significantly enriched for BRGs, cell-type markers23, gene ontology- (GO), and disease-associated genes from DisGeNET49. A table of 561,119 gene-disease associations were obtained from DisGeNET version 5.0 (May, 2017) from http://www.disgenet.org/. Gene sets associated with 17,857 GO-terms were obtained from the Ensembl dataset hsapiens_gene_ensembl version 92 through biomaRt R-package version 2.38. All gene sets were filtered to contain only genes matching the 20,017 genes in the AHBA and at least 10 genes. Modules were significantly enriched when P < 0.05 (BH-corrected for number of modules and gene sets) using all 20,017 genes from the AHBA as background genes.
