Saliva nicotine values were also available prior to nicotine spray administration. Saliva nicotine values have been reported to be 8.1 times higher than comparable assessments of nicotine in plasma (Rose, Levin, & Benowitz, 1993), but like plasma nicotine, saliva nicotine has been reliably related to withdrawal induced cigarette craving (Teneggi et al., 2002). Average saliva nicotine values were significantly lower between deprivation (M=13.4, SD=16.7) and non-deprivation (M=489.4, SD=742.6) conditions. There were no significant differences in average saliva nicotine values between genotypes.
