The strengths of this research include that this study was conducted in a sample of Latino subjects with SC from three different geographic areas in the same time period, using standardized interviews conducted by psychiatrists, the same diagnostic system across sites, and a consensus process for diagnosis. Few international studies using large, well diagnosis samples have been carried out since WHO’s International Study took place decades ago (Sartorious et al., 1972).
