Table 2 contains the allele frequencies for the 5-HTTLPR polymorphisms. These frequencies are consistent with previous reports of smokers (Lerman et al., 2000). The frequency of the genotypes in the sample met criteria for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, (χ2(df=1) =0.31, p=ns), as did the frequencies in Caucasians (χ2(df=1) =0.02, p=ns) and African-Americans (χ2(df=1) =0.12, p=ns), analyzed separately.
