per drink tends to increase in older individuals reflecting slower alcohol metabolism and higher brain sensitivity to depressant drugs, including alcohol (Barry & Blow, 2016). Despite these differences, the overall relationship of a lower LR value to heavier drinking and alcohol problems remains robust within these subgroups (e.g., Eng et al., 2005; Pedersen & McCarthy, 2009; Schuckit & Smith, 2013), and the predicted correlations remain significant in populations heterogenous for sex, age, race, and weight (Schuckit et al., 2008a, 2011a).
