Although the context in which drinking begins is important, the context in which use continues is also of interest. College campuses represent a unique setting and there are a number of aspects of college life which may further increase risk for heavy drinking and problems (e.g., fraternity/sorority membership, participation in collegiate athletics, and permissive drinking attitudes; The Century Council, 2011). Future research examining the role of socioenvironmental variables in relations among AO, delay, and alcohol outcomes will be helpful in developing a richer understanding of the factors that contribute to college students' drinking behavior.
