Traditionally, resting-state EEG and ERP measures have been studied independently. However, since early days of electroencephalography, it has been known that evoked potential waveforms emerge as a result of phase resetting of the ongoing EEG oscillations at different frequencies present in the resting EEG, as well as modulation of their amplitude (Livanov, 1934).
