If the first step is identifying the criteria to be used in determining whether findings should or may be offered back to contributors, the next step is considering a particular finding to determine whether it meets those criteria. This will involve consideration of a particular finding in the context of a specific study population or subpopulation. At this step, researchers and biobanks will ask questions such as “Is this incidental finding of BRCA2 in a study of pancreatic cancer genetics appropriate for return?”
