Overlaps between genome-wide association study (GWAS) associations and eQTLs have provided important insights into regulatory genes and variants for a wide range of complex traits and diseases5. As both the presence and extent of overlap between GWAS and eQTLs can be tissue- specific, the current phase of GTEx overcomes a major limitation in interpretation of disease variants by enabling analysis across a broad range of tissues.
