(gelastic epilepsy), foci were predominantly left-sided. These case reports converged to suggest predominant role of the right hemisphere in mood regulation, with an overlay of left hemispheric involvement in positive affect. Other clinical-pathological association studies, closely linked with animal studies, have revealed the interplay between limbic structures and frontal control systems in regulating emotion and social behavior. Most notably, the Klüver-Bucy (1937) syndrome demonstrated the role of amygdala and hippocampal regions in emotional regulation. Patients with this syndrome, and primates with lesions in such limbic regions, show emotional lability and may vacillate between docile behavior and uncontrollable emotional outbursts.
