Comparing the values of the genetic and specific environmental estimates between the baseline model and the values from the other models in Table 4 provides an indication of the genetic and environmental contributions to PYDD attributable to onset, the different types of SLE and their interactions. For women, incorporating the main effects of drinking onset, SLE, and their interactions resulted in a decrease in the genetic variance estimate, from 47 to ~40%, consistent with most of the effect of these variables on PYDD being accounted for through genetic effects. Similarly for men, the genetic variance estimate of PYDD decreased from 43 to ~38% upon including the main effects of drinking onset, SLE, and their interactions in the model.
