2008). This suggests that in spite of the fact that they show evidence of poor self-regulation, on average, our LTAA sample remained abstinent for long periods of time. The present study investigates sensation seeking in this sample of middle-aged LTAA, younger adult treatment-naïve actively drinking alcoholics (TxN), and age and gender comparable non-alcoholic controls (NAC). Social deviance, family history of alcohol problems, and alcohol use variables were also examined. Based on the idea that the ability to remain abstinent in LTAA is associated with reductions in sensation seeking, we test the hypothesis that middle-aged LTAA will evidence less of an elevation in sensation seeking than TxN, each compared to age and gender comparable non-alcoholic controls (NAC).
