Somewhat contradictory findings were reported by Liu et al. in 1 year olds, where ICA analyses returned unilateral, rather than bilateral, somatomotor components in most children (Liu et al., 2008). Another analysis by Gao et al. (Gao et al., 2009) used group ICA analyses to detect distributed components that partially resembled portions of the default mode network in cohorts of neonates, 1 year olds, and 2 year olds.
