Text

All 453 probands were located about a decade after their initial alcohol challenge, and over 99% were successfully evaluated. Subsequently, follow-ups were repeated about every 5 years, with the current analyses focusing on data available from the approximate age 35 and 40 proband evaluations (Schuckit & Gold, 1988; Schuckit & Smith, 1996). At each follow-up, data were gathered on spouses and on the birth of offspring, and personal interviews with those offspring were implemented every 5 years once the sons and daughters reached age 18 and were able to give informed consent to participate.
