Text

Evaluations for probands and offspring included a semi-structured interview using questions extracted from the Semi-Structured Assessment for the Genetics of Alcoholism (SSAGA) instrument with validity, retest reliabilities, and cross-interviewer reliabilities of 0.7 to 0.8 (Bucholz et al., 1994; Hesselbrock et al., 1999). The information obtained included the prior 5-year maximum number of standard drinks (10–12 g of ethanol) per occasion and the number of endorsed AUD criteria as listed in the Third Revised and Fourth Diagnostic and Statistical Manuals (DSM-IIIR and DSM-IV) of the American Psychiatric Association (1987, 1994).
