The REDCap platform and Consortium represent only a single model in terms of software development and dissemination. Alternate software distribution models exist (e.g., i2b2 [61], OpenMRS [62], and Vivo [63]) and software projects may find such models instructive as well. Nevertheless, we believe lessons learned from the REDCap program over the past 13 years can serve others interested in creating and disseminating informatics software through a consortium approach.
